Lumens

Lumen printing is an alternative photographic process that creates images without a camera. These unique images are created by placing botanicals on expired gelatin silver paper and exposing them to direct sunlight for an extended period of time. During the exposure, the plant material interacts with the silver halides in the paper, creating unpredictable color shifts that capture the ephemeral qualities of the botanicals used. Many factors influence the final print such as time of exposure, plant material used, and paper age, quality and type. Some of the prints involved coating the paper with cyanotype solution, or applying other liquids to the plant materials.
